Thursday 1th June 2010 - Royal Event

Today is the 89th birthday of His Royal Highness the Prince Philllip, Duke of Edinburgh. We wish His Royal Highness Many Happy Returns of the Day.

There, the BBC used to make that announcement but they don't seem to bother any more, so I'm doing it for them.  They used to do it for all of the immediate Senior members of the Royal Family.  They used to fly the Union Jack on public buildings too and that doesn't happen any more.  I wish it did - what a sad sign of the times that we don't even fly our own flag, almost as if we're ashamed of it.

Well I'm not, I'm proud of our flag, of our country and of our Royal Family and proud to stand up and be counted!

Happy Birthday to Prince Phillip! He and the Queen are in Chester today handing out medals to the regiment that is based here. She wanted to come to tea, but I'm far too busy to entertain today, far too busy! xxoo

Some years ago, Ruth met Prince Phillip (with wife in tow). He was utterly charming and had a very wicked sense of humour. He's been a great support to Her Majesty over the years and he's STILL dashing! I think he could have been a little more patient with his children - but who's to say what goes on behind closed doors.

Still not as great an honour as meeting me though, hehehe....

I love the Royal family.

P.S. How about King Keith and Queen Angie...?

Good for you Angie. I am glad that you are proud of your country and flag and leaders. I too love my country and flag... We do fly our flag all over the place here. I just love to see it everywhere we go. I wonder why Brits don't fly your flag more? I agree with you and think it is a pitty.

Happy Birthday Prince Phillip.
Have a good weekend my friend.
Hugs, Lura

I just read Marie's comment.... can you believe that the Queen was in Chester and didn't stop by Marie's for tea??? Oh well, I see that Marie was too busy anyway. Perhaps she will come for some of Keith's goodies.

Hi Angie! I've just been reading Marie's blog and saw your comment on her walk along the river Dee so I thought I'd visit your blog too...hope you don't mind!
After reading about flags flying for Royal member's birthdays, I just had to tell you that there's an elderly gentleman living opposite us who flies a flag at EVERY opportunity. If I see the Union Jack and don't know what it's for, I have to look it up! He even has the stars and stripes for Independence Day, the French flag for Bastille DAy, and so on! At the moment he has another flagpole in his front garden with the Cross of St George flying, for the World Cup of course!
I came back from France this evening and I'm wading through over 1000 emails and pages of Facebook!! ~~~Pat
