I should have kept my mouth shut: all is not as well as I thought. The gas boiler has just packed up! Oh for crying out loud, they still have to open doors and things yet. I rang the gas company and they have promised an engineer tomorrow. This is where the wheelchair comes in handy. If I wasn't disabled we would have had to wait until next week! Now I am seriously worried about the water pipes freezing up overnight with no heating to keep them flowing.

keep the water running at a slow stream tonight & leave the cabinet doors under sinks open. maybe that'll help. be sure & bundle yourself up good & use lots of blankets, etc or go to a friends.
hope they get out early tomorrow.
didn't realize you had elect till i got your email. yes use your elect blankie for sure. if you have or can get elect space heaters, set up a couple of those in one rm & block rm off so you'll have a warm spot to stay. & aim a sml space heater at the open cabinet door to keep pipes from freezing.
Oh, that's too bad.
I'll say a prayer for you!
All the best,
Eileen
Oh my goodness dear Angie.....I am getting cold just reading these last 2 posts. I think you and Keith should get on a plane and come spend the rest of the winter with us. It is lovely here in Cali...in the 60s and 70s and sunny...but then it is always sunny here. Maybe if you came some of your rain would fallow you. We need some rain.
Happy day after your birthday. I am glad that you heard me singing to you... and you didn't laugh.
I hope that your gas boiler gets fixed quickly.
Hugs, Lura
uppps....I meant to say follow...not fallow... How could I make that type error??? The a and the o are not even close to each other??? Oh, well, I guess I should proof read before I send instead of after.
Hugs again....Lura
Oooh - Angie! You poor thing; we remember what it was like for us in 2009 when our heating packed up - but it was nowhere near as cold as it is now. Can you corrall a load of portable electric heaters and candles from your friends? Have lots of cups of tea and snuggle up under a blanket with Keith!
Think of you lots - and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! - for the other day.
Love in a cold climate,
Ruth & Jasper xxxx
Oh dear Angie, isn't it typical when the winter is at it's coldest the heating goes awol..Thank goodness that the gas man is comming in the morning, fingers crossed that they can repair the boiler double quick..(My nieces boiler went last Sunday as well) good tips from Sugar. Please whatever you do keep warm as possible.
Prayers will be winging their way for you both. sorry your birthday was a non day...hope mine is better next Thurs...but with the weather no sign of letting up we will have to wait and see.
Much Love Sybil xx
I can only echo the comments other posters have made, they are all sensible. The best way to stop a pipe from freezing is to lag it, you can use old blankets or even newspaper.

I know the feeling of having no central heating Angie because I don't have any as you know.I do remember though when we were at home as girls in the winter Dad putting big candles under the sink to keep the pipes aired so they wouldn't freeze up in jars LOL!!I have to make do with just my gas fire and electric heaters all around the home.Though I am a tough old stick and I don't think many people today could put up with lots I have to.I feel at times I am still living in th evictorian days LOL!!Then again it never hurt our parents did it?The bills will be a fortune this next time but at least I am warm.I do hope the Gas Board keeps it's word and fixes it tomorrow for you..Roosters Father was one of those householders on the Calendar News with no gas since New years eve,Its a nightmare isn't it? Take Care God Bless Kath xx
I do hope you can get some of those electric heaters to keep the pipes from freezing. That is not good new when it's cold as it is. I'll be praying all goes well.
Hi Angie
I hope you are managing to keep warm! A belated happy birthday. Too bad you weren't able to really celebrate it. Maybe you can have a delayed birthday celebration?
Hugs, Rhondi
We keep the water running somewhere (inside or outside) at a slow steady rate to keep the pipes from freezing. Turn on your bathroom sink and let it slowly run...or bathtub faucet...that works for us.
I'm so very sorry that you are without heat. I do hope that you will find ways to stay as warm as possible...keep your feet and your head warm...those are the two places that the body loses heat the quickest. Take care of you, my friend. I will check in tomorrow to see how you are.
Love,
Jackie
I hope you had a wonderful b'day!
We too are having one of the coldest winters with the longest stretch of cold in weather history. They say by Tuesday temperatures might warm up to freezing - whoohooo!
It gives us all plenty of time to bundle up to enjoy a good book. Bundle up, layer and keep warm!!
Angie, we finally got our fuel delivery so we are no longer concerned about running out. I do hope that the engineer turned up and that you are toasty and warm tonight! xxoo
