There are no words strong enough to describe how I feel about the news that a child was sent home from school for wearing a poppy because it was not a part of the school uniform! That's disgraceful and disgusting and whoever was responsible is beneath contempt. I hope their son or daughter, brother or sister never has need of respectful remembrance and that if they do, God forbid it, this person will have the courage to say "I'm sorry, I was wrong. "

That is disturbing to be sure. What is our world coming to? We celebrate Veterans Day here on the 11th of November and Poppies are sold and worn with pride.

That is absolutely wrong ,what message is this sending out to the children of today instead,A poppy would be a good place to start with a history lesson ,recent history should be talk in schools ,and the children should be allowed to wear their poppies with pride ,I despair !...love Jan xx
This reminds me of the story I heard about a young person thinking a $2 bill was counterfeit because he didn't think there were such things. I'm sure whoever did that didn't realize...at least I hope that. blessings, marlene

A few years ago when "sexual harassment" was a new concept and rightly being swiftly and sternly dealt with, an ELEMENTARY school somewhere on the eastern seaboard of the US sent a FIRST GRADER home because he kissed a little girl on the playground.

I am completely baffled;here in Canada the Poppy is part of everyone's uniform. We all wear a poppy from the end of October. I hope whoever was responsible for this has to answer for her/his actions. What is this world coming to?
We were travelling last week in The USA and everyone was surprised to see us wearing a Poppy.

I apologise for the profanity, but IN THE NAME OF ALL THAT IS HOLY - what is WRONG with people?! I mean seriously. This story passed me by - but (in case you hadn't guessed) this story makes my blood BOIL. We will never, EVER, be able to repay the debt we owe to those who fought and suffered so that we could live in freedom. Wearing a Poppy is a small gesture - but it means so much. How DARE anyone censor it?!? A little under 39 MILLION (mostly young) men were killed or wounded in WWI. My Grampy was a front-line Medic in WWII and was with the unit that liberated Bergen Belsen concentration camp from the Nazis. He NEVER slept at night again, for the rest of his life, after what he had to see and do in that place. And some jobsworth berates a nipper because they pinned a little paper Poppy to their sweater? No words - no words, Angie. EVEN Jasper is livid about this. Lest we forget:

That really is wrong. I never miss a chance to buy a poppy and display them proudly. It's something my father, a World War II veteran, taught me to do. Children need to be guided.

I came over from Daisymum's place - I like the sound of your blog so will have a look around some time.
My kitchen is at the back so I get to look at the backgarden while I'm washing up (dishwasher free here also) but my sitting room is in the front (with big windows) and theres nothing better on a lazy morning to watch the world go by.
