Friday 28th May - She's Back!

Well first of all many thanks to all you lovely lot who cared about me while I've been in hospital.  I hadn't planned on going in, it just sort of happened a week ago yesterday.  I had spent the previous 2 nights having shivering fits and then found I couldn't stand up.  Quite scary but, I hope, sorted now.  I just have to keep taking the tablets and breathing the puffers.

But if I thought Keith might waste away from me not being there to do the housewifely things, I soon thought again.  He first of all came to visit boastng about what he made for his lunch that day

For the uninitiated, we call this Toad in the Hole;  the very best Lincolnshire sausages cooked in Yorkshire Pudding.  Would this be Fusion Food?

And here's how it looked on the plate...............

I know this was just dished up with some new potatoes and a tin of peas and gravy made with gravy granules - but let's not be snobby about this plate of food;  I would have killed for it!!!!  I wonder what happened to the rest of it?

Nothing daunted, when he visited next day THIS is what he'd made:

Which became THIS

Then THIS
AND FINALLY................

Cottage pie topped off with a thick layer of cheddar cheese.
And he didn't stop there!  Oh no!   He arrived one afternoon carrying a beautiful Victoria Sponge cake with buttercream and strawberry jam, the like of which many a W.I. lady would wish they had made.   Have an ogle at this it's all that's left after we all had a bit).  I've seen neater but I've not had tastier.

He even brought some picnic plates!

No secrets in hospital are there?  Everybody and his wife and dog wants to know your date of birth.  Apparently it's supposed to be some guard against getting the wrong patient.  Well let me just  tell you, all you get on your wristband these days is your name, NHS number, date of birth and barcode.  So if there's all the required information there already  what's in the barcode?  Eh, Eh?
Another thing you have to announce to the world is whether or not you've 'had your bowels opened' today, which is nurse-speak for 'have you been to the toilet?', 'have you done a number 2?'.  Thankfully, you don't have to provide evidence.

And all the health and safety they have to think about these days.  No flowers on the ward any more.  Oh no, someone might be allergic or have hay fever.  Patients can't read the newspaper because the paper  boy can't go on the ward now for fear his filthy cargo might import some MRSA or something.  You can have mucky old visitors as long as they clean their hands with those squirty things outside the ward door.  THEIR HANDS indeed, as if that's the muckiest thing about them.  Strictly speaking Keith shouldn't have shared that cake out but as some of the nurses had a bit as well that would cancel out any ill-effects.  It must have been more by luck than design that we were all OK

And they are prevented by law from restraining anybody, even if it's for their own good like, presumably. stopping them falling out of bed.

I think I'm sorriest about the flowers.  Everywhere is so drab without flowers.

That is one thing they haven't cut here in our hospitals...flowers are so cheerful . I'm so glad you are home again. That was very sudden and Marie did let us know what happened so I'm thankful for her spreading the news. Your Keith can cook too? What a man you have there! Take good care and you'll soon be good as new!

You're not allowed to take flowers in the hospitals back home either, nor are you allowed to enter wearing perfume. In fact a lot of places now won't allow anyone in with perfume on. I think it's because there are a lot of people allergic nowadays to scents or some such. Tell Keith he's hired! Anyone who can make a Toad in the Hole, cottage Pie and a Victorian Sponge like that is an ACE in my books!! Lucky you!! Does this mean you can sit on your laurels now and let him wallop all the pots and pans??? Am so glad that you are out of hospital now. ((((hugs)))) Take good care of yourself coz we miss you when you're not around you know! Oh and just so you aren't missing them in the hospital too overly much, to make you feel at home like . . . have you had your bowels opened today? lol. haha love you loads! xxoo

Angie - - - I feel that I have truly let you down! I've been so piled under with the end of school that I haven't been keeping up with my blogs, and now I come back to blogworld and see that you have been in the hospital!!!

Hope you are well and truly on your way to recovery now.

Love you, my friend.

Funny about the toad in a hole. We have there here too - - - but it is an egg fried sunny side up into a hole cut into a piece of bread, which toasts as the egg fries.

BTW - - - I LOVE a good yorkshire pudding with yummy gravy poured over it, though most Americans don't have a clue what yorkshire pudding even is.

Dear Angie,
I am upset because I did not know that you were in the hospital.... my goodness I would have sent flowers and sent you a newspaper!!!

I am sorry that you were sick....however, I am amazed that
Keith is such a good cook and took pictures to boot. How in the world did you train your hubby so well?

I am glad to learn that giving nurses pieces of contraband cake takes away the risk factor.

Well, dear, I hope that you are really better. I truly am sorry that you were so ill. Hugs, Lura

Well the laughs are back on blogger He-Heeeeee.Thank goodness. It's good to read you are back and feeling much better.I got a shock when I found out. It's been a long time now since we could take flowers to our hospital.A job less for the patients though, because I remember when I was in for such a long time (6mnths)the staff never changed the water in them.I used to be sick of going back and forth to the sluice room.I suggest you enter Keith in the program on TV "Come Dine With Me"" on channel four at tea/times,just think he could win you a GRAND heeeeeeeeeeee. He's a born winner LOL!!Well done to him tell him from me.Take Care Angie so happy you are better.God Bless Kath xx

Thank the Lord you are OK Angie. Keith's food looks yummy - he's a proper treasure and a Prince among men. He doesn't have a 30-yr-old younger brother, does he?!

Yeh, hospitals are miserable places these days. No flowers, mags, smiling, etc. I think it might be the Government's way of steadily picking us off before our time ;-)....

Toad in the Hole is our PERFECT meal - I have the batter with gravy (LOVE the batter) and Jasper has the sausages. We're perfect partners.

You stay well, Angie M. You're FAR too precious to go before your time.
